Services Held For Inez Thoma

Funeral services for Inez Thoma were held Tuesday, July 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. David H. Palm officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery, rural Waukon.

Inez Lillian Thoma, daughter of Albert and Inez (Goeke) Kiesau, was born Dec. 12, 1907 in Winneshiek County. She died Saturday, July 14, 1984 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville.

She was baptized Dec. 12, 1907 and confirmed April 9, 1922 at the Salem United Church of Christ. Inez attended Frankville School and graduated from Charles City High School. She attended the School of Nursing in Minneapolis receiving her LPN degree.

Oct. 5, 1940, she married Arthur Thoma. For many years Inez was a "Home-Care" nurse and was employed at hospitals in the area.

She had many hobbies such as needlework of all kinds, lapidary, woodworking and any kind of handcraft. Together she and Art gathered and delivered clothing to the Rose Bud Indian Reservation in South Dakota and Inez made numerous Indian dolls for the children.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the LCW, Allamakee County Historical Society, Allamakee County Mental Health Board, Allamakee County Group Home Board and the State Board of Mental Health.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roland Kiesau; and a twin sister, Mary.

Surviving besides her husband Art, is a sister, Marion (Mrs. Robert O. Stock) of Waukon; and seven nieces and nephews: Kenneth Kiesau, Nina, WI; Jody Ingwersen of Simi, CA; Mary Kiesau of Bloomington, MN; Susan Schlitter and James Stock of Waukon; John Stock of Titonka and Mary Holthaus of Rock Falls, IL.
