Services Held For Mrs. John Thoma
Adelaide Estelle Harrington, the daughter of D'Estinge and Nancy Anne Burnham Harrington, was born at Postville, August 18, 1872, the oldest of six children. Her entire life was spent in Postville. She passed away at her home in Postville, Wednesday, September 3, 1958.
Adelaide Harrington was united in marriage to John M. Thoma of Postville on March 30, 1893. Four daughters were born to this union.
The death of her husband occurred on July 23, 1944, followed by the death of her oldest daughter, Mrs. Louise D. Mayer of Minneapolis, Minnesota in September, 1944.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Bertha) Palmer of Anoka, Minnesota; Mrs. John (Hattie) Casten and Mrs. Donald (Ethel) Folsom, both of Postville; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Gussie Harrington of Marshalltown, Fred Harrington of Decorah, and Cyrus Harrington of Postville, and a sister, Mrs. Henry (Alida) Lange of Postville. A brother, Arthur preceded her in death.
Mrs. Adelaide Thoma was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star of Postville. Her husband, John Thoma, received a 50-year recognition certificate as a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home Saturday, September 6, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Walter T. Martin in charge of the rites. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
