Conrad Thoma Passes On In Minneapolis

Conrad Thoma, 72, a former Postville resident, passed away last Thursday in Minneapolis, Minn., after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday and burial was in a Minneapolis cemetery. Edward and Louis Thoma, brothers of the deceased, accompanied by their brother, John C. Thoma, of Waukon, and nephew, Harry Gordon, of Luana, attended the funeral.

Mr. Thoma was born in Postville November 23, 1874, as the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thoma. He grew to manhood here and on September 20, 1896, he was married to Martha Priebe of Elma, Iowa. To them were born four children, all of whom survive. They are Carter Thoma of Mason City; Lola, Mrs. P. J. Brewer, of Minneapolis; Verna, Mrs. Al Lesterson, and Ruby, Mrs. Wilbur Hodges, both of Detroit, Mich.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Thoma lived for a time in Postville. He followed railroading, first with the Milwaukee Road, and in 1915, when the family moved to Minneapolis, he went to work for the Great Western Railroad, with which he served until his retirement in 1943.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brothers, Edward and Louis of Postville, John C. Thoma of Waukon, and Fred Thoma, Milwaukee, Wis. His parents and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Gordon and Mrs. Louise Poesch, preceded him in death.
