James Hinman

James Clifford Hinman, 76, of Monona, IA died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday, September 15 at the Garden City Methodist Church in Monona, IA with Military Rites by the Clayton County Am-Vets Post 27.

James was born on October 12, 1930 in Postville, IA, the son of Harry and Ruth (Thornton) Hinman. He spent his youth as a caddie on the nearby golf course. He grew up in Hardin, IA playing with his special truck. James was the first of the kids to have a bicycle and also enjoyed sleigh riding, playing outside and with his wagon. He served in the Army for 22 years and enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout his life.

James is survived by his faithful wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Kathy (Hinman) and Ricke Starkey, Crystal (Hinman) and Dale Sweet, and Kimberly (Hinman) and Scott Ellis; sisters Doris (Hinman) Swenson, Joyce (Hinman) and Don Montour, Jennifer (Hinman) and Bruce LeClere, and sister-in-law Donnafred Hinman; grandchildren Brian and Jenni Hinman, Kellie Bailey, Lynnette Starkey, Kala (Hinman) and Roberto Terrones, Mickie Ellis, and Timothy Ellis; two step-granddaughters, Vicky and Steve Colich and Anna and Fred Sperry; and fourteen very loved great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by sons Dennis and Clifford; parents Harry and Ruth; brother Warren; brother-in-law Alois Swenson; and his beloved dog Wally.

The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is assisting with the arrangements.
