Orabelle M. Wild, 91 of Waukon, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26, 2002, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Burial was in French Creek Methodist Cemetery, rural Lansing. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted the family with arrangements. Orabelle Marie Wild was born on July 12, 1911, on the French Creek Township, rural Lansing, farm of her parents, George and Anna (Fink) Wild. She was baptized and confirmed at the French Creek Methodist Church and attended French Creek #2 rural school. Orabelle lived in Washington D.C. where she did clerical work for the Atomic Energy Commission and the US Department of Agriculture for 40 years. After retirement, she returned to Waukon. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the 19th Century Club. She also did volunteer work at the Good Samaritan Center and Makee Manor. Orabelle enjoyed sewing, needlework, shopping, and flowers. She was very fond of her pet parakeets and also liked to spend time visiting with her friends. Survivors include two sisters, Arlene Rooney of Waukon and Sylvia Hayes of Sun City, Ariz.; a step-sister, Sylvia (Charles) Bakke, and a half-sister, Shirley (Wilbur) Rose, both of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Milton Wild; a sister, Eleanore Mouw; two step-brothers, Herbert and Walter Zimmerman; and a step-sister, Esther Humphrey. Casket bearers are Lynn and Bruce Anderson, Bill and Robert Campbell, Carol and Sam Quandahl, and Mary Jo and Tom Schofield.
