Florence Ranzenberger 1930-2007
Florence E. Ranzenberger, 76, of Waukon died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be in Iowa River Cemetery in rural Decorah. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 5 p.m. American Legion Auxiliary Service. Memorials may be directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
Florence Eileen Schrandt Ranzenberger was born October 10, 1930 in Decorah, the daughter of Olaf and Elma (Tweet) Iverson. She was baptized at Iowa River Lutheran Church and confirmed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, both in rural Decorah. Florence attended Allamakee Country Schools and graduated from Decorah High School in 1949. She worked for Lang's Jewelry Store in Decorah for several years.
June 6, 1951 she married Cornell "Tom" Schrandt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Festina. They rented a couple of farms in Winneshiek County for several years before purchasing a farm in 1959 in rural Waterville. In 1990 they moved to Waukon. Tom died in 1992. June 22, 1995 she married Elvin Ranzenberger at St. John's Lutheran Church, and they also lived in Waukon. Florence has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since May of 2004.
Florence was a former member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, where she was a Sunday school teacher and was very active in the ladies circles. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its ladies circles. Florence was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Farm Bureau, and North East Iowa and Southern Minnesota Quilters Associations. She enjoyed quilting, refinishing old furniture, playing cards especially 500 and Canasta, playing the piano at Northgate Care Center and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Elvin of Waukon; a son, Thomas (Julie) Schrandt of Adel; a granddaughter, Jaime; a son-in-law, Ken Pilgrim of Charlotte; a brother, Merton (Marcella) Iverson, and a sister, Eleanor Ellingson, both of Decorah; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Cornell "Tom"; a daughter, Kathy Pilgrim, who died in 1998; a brother, Orville Iverson; and four infant siblings.
Casketbearers are Jeff Ellingson, Randy Iverson, Jerry, Donald and Marvin Schrandt, and Paul Tewes.
