Gary Barker
Gary Allen Barker died suddenly from cancer at the Prairie du Chien hospital Monday, May 21, 2007 at the age of 62 years, four months, and four days. Family memorial services were held Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the home of Charles and Lois Rolfs in Waukon. Interment of his ashes was in the Old West Paint Creek Cemetery, rural Waukon.
Gary Allen Barker was born January 17, 1945 in Tama, the son of Joe and Geneva Barker. Gary grew up in Waverly, attending schools in Waverly. He graduated from Kirkwood Technology Institute with a degree in welding.
Following his graduation, Gary worked at a number of jobs, and also on road construction. Most recently, he worked at Bituma in Marquette and at Dillman Equipment in Prairie du Chien, Wl.
December 20, 1986, Gary married Wanda Halvorson at Postville. Gary and Wanda lived in the Wauzeka, WI area.
Gary enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, going out on the pontoon, doing puzzles, working with wood, and being on the computer. He especially enjoyed being at home with his wife and his dogs.
Gary is survived by his wife, Wanda Barker of Wauzeka, WI; his mother-in-law, Lorine Halvorson of Waukon; three children, Todd and his wife Joan Dietrich of Waukon, Dawn Smith of Waterville, and Chris Dietrich and his fiance Tessa Welch of Elkader. Gary is also survived by nine grandchildren, Brandon Dietrich and friend Michelle Mathis, Dillon, Elizabeth, and Abigail Dietrich, Jamie Plozel, Cory and Josh Smith, Amber Ambrose, and Harley Dietrich. Gary is also survived by one great-grandchild, Preston Dietrich; two brothers-in-law, Richard and his wife Bernie Halvorson of East Dubuque, IL, and Junior and his wife Mary Lou Halvorson of Waukon; and two sisters-in-law, Darlene and her husband Edwin Keehn Jr. of Dubuque and Lois and her husband Charles Rolfs of Waukon, besides many other family and friends. Blessed be his memory among us.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Herb Halvorson; infant sister-in-law, Donna Rae Halvorson; and his step nephew, Russ Halvorson.
