Anna Tonette "Toni" Witt

Anna Tonette "Toni" Witt (nee Rothnem) found eternal peace at home with her loving family at her side on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 after months of struggling with leukemia at the age of 78 years. She will be remembered and missed by her husband, Rev. Dr. Charles W. Witt, Sr.; loving sons, Charles, Jr. (Carolyn), Thomas, David (Roseann) and James Witt; devoted daughter, Sara (Eugene) Yamaguchi and 10 adoring grandchildren: Henry, Sam, Andrew, Alex, Emily, Erik and Ryan Witt, Stephen, Christopher and Lauren Yamaguchi; a sister, Valborg (the late George "Clar") Chronquist; a brother-in-law, Alister "Casey" (the late Barbara Jean) MacDonald; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice and Eleanor; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nordis and brother, Berthold.

A Memorial Service was held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee with Rev. Peter Martyn officiating.

Toni was born in Dell Rapids, SD, received early education in Virginia, MN, taught at Abbotsford, WI and graduated from St. Olaf College in 1947. She taught in Milaca, MN, became vocal supervisor of the high school in St. James, MN, then in the school of River Falls, WI.

She married Rev. Charles Witt on Dec. 27, 1950 in Minneapolis, MN at the Lutheran Seminary. She lived in Marshfield, WI where she sang in the Choral Club, was very active in choral work at Trinity Lutheran Church. Toni moved to Postville, IA where she was active with LCW and directed choirs. From 1965 to the present, she lived in the greater Milwaukee area where she substitute taught, directed children's choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church, was involved in Ruth Group and was a regular member of the choir.

She worked at Lutheran Hospital as a ward clerk until she retired in 1992. It was at this time that she dedicated herself to her grandchildren. She always found room for others and extended her friendship wherever she lived. We feel blessed having had her as our mother.
