Ada R. Winke

Ada R. Winke, daughter of Carl and Mary (Moeller) Osterholz, was born on September 1, 1898 in Waukon, Iowa. She died on June 16, 1994 at the Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She was 95 years old.

Ada was a life long member of the Zalmona Presbyterian Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and attended Bible School. She also taught German at Zalmona. She attended rural Helming Elementary School. On March 20, 1924, she was united in marriage to John Henry Winke at her parent's home in Union Prairie Township of Allamakee County.

Ada was a homemaker and raised pigs and chickens, milked a few cows on their acreage and raised a large garden while living in the country. She also helped care for several elderly people in the area. She was an avid Bible reader and wrote poetry for special people and events. She loved to spent time with children.

She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John, who died in 1969; brothers John and Elmer Osterholz and infant brother, John; sisters Mary Roth, Minnie Sanderman and Leslie Rupp.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 18, 1994 at the Martin Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Walker presiding. Casket bearers were Neil Sanderman, Ralph Osterholz, Urban Sanderman, Ronald Winkie, Ray Wacker and Darrell Winkie. Arrangements were made by Martin Funeral Home of Waukon. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery.
