Elmer William Winke

Elmer William Winke, 91, died Nov. 11 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, rural Waukon. Rev. James Jacobson officiated. Burial was in Zalmona Cemetery. Martin's Funeral Service, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements.

Elmer William Winke, son of William Winke and Lydia Meier Winke was born April 22, 1899 on the family farm, rural Waukon. He attended Ludlow area rural schools and Valders Business College in Decorah.

He married Mabel Ruth Snitker Feb. 12, 1926 at the home of her parents.

He was a lifetime area resident and retired from farming in 1971. He was a lifetime member of Zalmona Presbyterian Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He served as a board member and president of board for Bell School in Ludlow.

Preceding him in death was 1 daughter in infancy; a brother, George Winke and 1 sister in infancy.

Surviving are 2 sons, Virgil, of Janesville, WI and Darwin of Gladbrook, IA; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Emmett Winke and Walter Winke, both of Waukon; 2 sisters, Dorothy Ludeking and Clara Kugel, both of Waukon.

Pallbearers were Mark Winke, David Winke, Darrel Teubert, Scott Winke, Brock Winke and Dale Hesse.

Honorary pallbearers, Clarence Dee, Irving Walsh, Vincent Mathis, Reuben Winke, Elmer Flage and John Oesterle.
