Ruth Louise Winkie

Funeral services for Ruth Louise Winkie, 83, of Waukon, were held Saturday, Dec. 8, 1:30 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon. Rev. Dr. Elsa Marsland officiated. Interment was in the Salem Cemetery. Martin's Funeral Service, Waukon, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth L. Winkie, daughter of Fred Becker and Henrietta Grotegut Becker was Aug. 11, 1907 at Waukon. She died Dec. 6, 1990 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

She received her education in the rural elementary schools and graduated from Waukon High School. She was a lifetime area resident.

On June 24, 1926 she married Clarence T. Winkie at Waukon. They farmed until 1972, then moved to Waukon. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center since 1986. She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ and belonged to the Womens Fellowship there.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, Dec. 29, 1982; a son, Robert Winkie (died 1968) and a great-granddaughter, Crystal; brothers and sisters, Louise Becker, Mary Hansmeier, Emma Duvel, Ida Winke and Fred Becker.

Surviving are a son Ronald Winkie of Postville; 2 daughters, Erma Leary, Cedar Rapids and Janet Callas, Yuma, AZ.

Pallbearers: Tony Vislisel, Brad, Brian, Wayne, Donald and Jerry Winkie.
