Amelia C. Winke

Amelia C. Winke was born on the Ludlow farm of her parents, John and Lillie Becker Selberg, on September 26, 1910. She died on March 10, 1992 at the St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisc. She was 81.

"Amy" was baptized and confirmed at Salem UCC. She was educated at Ludlow #3 rural elementary and Waukon High School. On October 12, 1932 she married Ben Winke at her parents home in Waukon. She was very active at church (Zalmona Presbyterian) as well as at home on the farm, where she raised a large garden, flowers, and chickens. She also did sewing and other handiwork. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Walter Selberg; and her sisters, Luella Selberg and Leona Mauss.

Survivors include her husband Ben; her son Richard "Butch" Winke and his wife Mary Kay of Waukon; her sister Betty DeBuhr of Waukon; her sister-in-law Vivian Selberg; and two grandchildren, Rick and Dorothy Winke.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 13, 1992 at the Zalmona Presbyterian Church, Rev. James Jacobson officiating. Casketbearers were Gerry and Dennis DeBuhr, Gary Winke, Neil Becker, Randy and Merlin Kruger.
