Mrs. Mary L. Wagner, 65, of Afton, IL, who was born June 22, 1920 in Postville, died earlier this month in Rockford, IL. Services were in Janesville, IL. She was an area resident the last 40 years.

The former Mary Benson, she married Sherwood Wagner in Janesville on Aug. 7, 1970. Survivors include her husband, 2 daughters, 4 sons, a stepson, 2 stepdaughters, 25 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Louis Benson of Hacienda Heights, CA. William Benson and Fred Harrington, both of Iowa, and a sister, Lois Hess of Iowa.

Mrs. Mary L. Wagner, 65, of Route 3, 3534 Bass Creek, Afton, [Wis.], died Thursday, in St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford, Illinois.

Born June 22, 1920, in Postville, Iowa, the former Mary Benson married Sherwood L. Wagner on Aug. 7, 1970, in Janesville, Wisconsin. She was an area resident for the past 40 years.

Surviving are her husband; 2 daughters, Rose Mary Ebert and Judy Hill, both of Janesville; 4 sons, James Brainard of Fairborne, Ohio, Roger Brainard of Edgerton, Leroy Brainard of Big Sandy, Mont., and Jerry Brainard of Stoughton; a stepson, Sherwood Wagner, Jr.; 2 stepdaughters, Constance Van Fleet of Beloit and Sherry Foster of Beaver Dam; 25 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Louis Benson of Hacienda Heights, Calif., William Benson and Fred Harrington, both of Iowa; and a sister, Lois Hess of Iowa.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Schneider Funeral Home, Janesville, with burial in Town of Rock Cemetery, Afton, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Submitter notes: Mary was married first to Lloyd G. Brainard, son of Reuben J. J. and Minnie L. (Schroeder) Brainard of Postville, Iowa. Lloyd and Mary were evidently divorced as Lloyd died May 1978.
