Last rites for Mrs. Laura Bechtel

Mrs. Laura Bechtel, 79, of Waukon died on Saturday, October 8, in the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. She was born on December 22, 1897 in Allamakee county to Fred and Mary Klocke Renne. She was educated in the local schools and married Benjamin Bechtel on February 12, 1916 in Waukon. They made their home in Waukon, He preceded her in death October 4, 1969.

Surviving are one son, Lloyd, of Waukon, six daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Inez) Kurth, Mrs. Carl (Gladys) Beall, both of rural Luana; Mrs. Donald (Bernice) Deal of Waukon; Mrs. Milton (Gertrude) Somermeyer of New Albin; Mrs. (Doris) Sims of Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Judy Campbell of Waukon. One daughter, Ruby Barr, is deceased.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur, and a sister, Esther Renne Ehde. She is survived by 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. A sister Mrs. (Meta) Hansmeier, also survives.

Mrs. Bechtel was a cook in the Model Cafe. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, from where the funeral was held on Monday, October 10, at 1:30 pm. with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiated and Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
