Services Held Monday For Benjamin Bechtel

The death of Benjamin Bechtel, retired farmer, occurred Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past month. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 1:30 pm. from Zion Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Wm. Tjaden officiating. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery.

Benjamin Bechtel was born in Winneshiek county on November 26, 1892, a son of Fred and Amelia Grotegut Bechtel. He was married on February 12, 1916 to Laura Renne, who survives with eight children.

They are Lloyd Bechtel, Mrs. Donald (Bernice) Deal and Mrs. Roland (Ruby) Barr all of Waukon. Mrs. Gerald (Inez) Kurth, Mrs. Carl (Gladys) Beall, both of Luana; Mrs. Milton (Gertrude) Somermeyer, New Albin, Mrs. Vernon (Doris) Sims, Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Judy Campbell, of Iowa City.

There are a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother and four sisters: Art Bechtel, Mrs. Elmer Snitker, Mrs. Henry Waterman and Mrs. Alvin Brandt, all of Waukon and Mrs. Arthur Hesse, of Postville. Martin Bros. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
