CHALMER HUGHES

Boscobel, Wisconsin --- Chalmer Hughes, 77, Boscobel, a veteran of both World Wars, died at Madison Veterans' hospital Saturday evening, May 8, after a brief illness. A bachelor, he had resided at the hotel Boscobel the last three years.

Son of Ezra and Amanda Hughes, he was born in Postville. The family moved to Boscobel about 65 years ago and Chalmer graduated from the local high school. Later he moved to Milwaukee with his parents and made his home there for many years. The last few years he lived at Postville and Boscobel.

Mr. Hughes was an overseas veteran of World War I and earned three major combat ribbons. Although well past 50, he joined the Coast Guard and also served his country during World War II. He had been a Great Lakes sailor but spent the major portion of his working years as a railroad employee, and was a retired yard clerk.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and a sister. Surviving are a nephew, E. O. Hughes of Postville; a niece, Vivian Mickel of Boscobel; and several cousins.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 12, at Boscobel; burial was at Boscobel.

Postville Herald newspaper clipping from my mother's obituary collection. Submitter has no further information. Mother didn't hand date this one, for some reason.
