Mrs. Wm. Spiegler Dies After Months of Illness

Mrs. Wm. Spiegler, 56, lifelong and highly respected resident of Union City township, died Friday, July 29, 1938, of cancer after several months of illness and suffering. She had been forced to remain in her bed for the past 12 weeks, waiting the end of her earthly labors which she knew was inevitable in a short period of time.

As Minnie Jane Sires, the daughter of John and Sarah Jane (Duff) Sires, she was born in Union City township January 13, 1882. Shortly after her birth her mother died and her father passed away in the year 1918.

She received her education in the English Bench school and on February 5, 1903, she was united in marriage with William Spiegler at Mt. Hope Presbyterian church in Union City township and they followed the occupation of farming.

Two children were born to them, an infant son who died at birth, and Marvin Spiegler of Waukon.

Mrs. Spiegler was a member of the Mt. Hope church and was faithful to its teachings all during her life. Her death will be greatly mourned by her husband, son Marvin and other relatives as well as a host of friends.

Surviving her beside the husband and son mentioned above are four brothers, Frank Sires of College Place, Wash., James of New Albin, Roy of Sumner and Dan of Dorchester.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Mt. Hope Presbyterian church with Rev. Haas and Rev. Arthur Prust officiating. Interment was made at the English Bench cemetery. Those attending the casket were Thomas, Earl, Ebb and Arthur Beardmore, Geo. Hartley and Frank Bulman.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Vern Abbott of La Crosse, Wis.; Mrs. Levi Sires and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sires of Benson, Ia.; Mrs. Ronald May of Hastings, Minn.; Miss Eva Sires of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Helmbrecht of Beaver Dam, Wis.; Miss Jane Sires of Antigo, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sires and family and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Britain of Sumner, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Vern Sires of Preston, Ia., and Mrs. Anna Buckendahl and Floyd Meyer of Caledonia, Minn.
