Lena (Hahn) Sires 1887 - 1971

Lena Hahn was born Sept. 30, 1887 at Brookings, S. Dak. She was the daughter of John and Margaret (Schaffer) Hahn. As a young child, she came to Iowa with her parents where she attended school and grew to womanhood.

On Sept. 25, 1905, she was united to Roy Sires at Waukon, Iowa. To this union, six daughters and three sons were born.

Mrs. Sires was united and baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist church in 1933 at Village Creek near Lansing, Iowa, of which she has been a faithful member ever since.

Mrs. Sires had been in failing health the past few years and had been hospitalized at various times. Her death came Saturday afternoon at the Palmer Memorial Hospital at West Union, at 2:00 p.m., on Aug. 28, 1971, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and three days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Roy and nine children; Mrs Ronald (Sylvia) May, Mrs. Dervin (Goldie) Rocksvold, Mrs. Clayton (Emerald) Grahlman and Sardius of Clayton, Ia., James of Marshalltown, Ia., Mrs. Lowell (Opal) Britain of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Leo (Pearl) Ehde of Frankville, Ia., Mrs. Bert (Beryl) Pokorny of Havana, Ill. and Roy of Waterloo, Ia; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends and relatives.

She now rests in peace until Jesus comes in the clouds of Heaven to awaken all who sleep in Jesus of all ages to receive their everlasting reward, eternal life, how wonderful. Thanks to the Heavenly Father in Jesus name.

Visitation was held at the Emerson-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye Monday evening and Tuesday when the remains were taken to the Martin Funeral Home in Waukon Wednesday morning.

Services were held at the Martin Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, with Rev. Terry Royer of La Crosse, Wis. officiating. Organist was Mrs. Charles McLeish and soloist was Mrs. Harriet McComber, who sang, "Asleep in Jesus" and "My Savior First Of All".

Pallbearers were her grandchildren, John T. May, Thomas Rocksvold, James Grahlman, Mervin Sires, Michael Sires and Reginald Pokorny.

Burial was in the English Bench cemetery north of New Albin, Ia.
