Helen Marie Havlik, 92, of Lansing, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, October 16 at Thornton Manor in Lansing from natural causes. Services were held Thursday, October 19 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with burial in Czech National Cemetery.
Helen was born May 28, 1914 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William and Emma Leffelbein Mann. She married Adolph Havlik December 5, 1936 in Ely. Helen worked for over 25 years for Wilson Meat Packing before retiring in May of 1971. She and Adolph moved to Lansing after retiring and fished on the Mississippi River in the summers and spent many winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas in a retiree's park. They made many friends at the park from across the United States and southern Canada. There was never a dull moment at the park with entertainment including exercise, potlucks, cards, bingo, and church.
Helen is survived by a son, Robert (Marilyn) Havlik of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Shirley Wolfe of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren Doug, Kaleen, Carrie, Kimberly, and Jeffrey; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Adolph, who died September 12, 2004; a son-in-law, John Wolfe; two brothers, Ed and Irwin "Shorty"; and a sister, Louise.
