Lewis Michael Palmer
February 21, 1990 - October 29, 2006

Lewis M. Palmer, 16, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI following a car-bicycle accident. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 1st at 10:30 am at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for a scholarship fund in memory of Lewis Palmer.

Lewis Michael Palmer was born on February 21, 1990 in Waukon, IA, the son of Bruce and Janet (Miller) Palmer. He was baptized at Glenwood Lutheran Church rural Decorah and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. Lewis attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and Waukon Elementary School. He was currently a junior at Waukon High School where he was active in the Concert Choir and the fall musical "Grease." Lewis delivered the Prairie du Chein Shopping Newspaper. He was an active member at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church where he assisted with worship and participated in Luther League. In August of 2006, Lewis traveled with the Paint Creek Luther League to Bay City, Michigan, for a week of service assisting with home and handicap improvements for people in need.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially riding his bike to explore the countryside. Lewis liked going to garage sales and auctions where he could buy and bid on items for his collection of antiques, coins, calendars, Whitman books and dishware. He enjoyed writing and reading books; especially about history and classic cars. Lewis recently learned how to drive a straight stick vehicle and attended the State Fair every year. He dreamed of one day having a log cabin. His final gift to life was organ donation benefiting several people in need.

Survivors include his parents, Bruce and Janet Palmer of Waukon; a brother, Lee (Jennifer) Palmer and their son, Noah of Graettinger, IA; a sister, Laura Palmer of Lawrence, KS; a grandmother, Barbara Bergeson of Waukon; a grandfather, Robert Miller of North English; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by a grandfather, Lee Palmer; a grandmother, Mary Ann Edwards; and a step-grandfather Howard Bergeson. Casketbearers were The Confirmation Class of 2005 and the 2006 WORKCAMP Mission Trip Youth of Old West and Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Parishes.
