Louise Stewart

Louise P. Stewart, 89, of Menasha Wisc., formerly of Neenah, Wisc., died Thursday, July 20, 2006. Funeral services for Louise Stewart were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural, Clermont, Iowa, with visitation held prior to the service. Reverend Steven Jacobsen of First Lutheran Church, Decorah officiated. Burial was held in the church cemetery. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Visitation was held Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home in Fond du Lac, Wisc.

Louise was born December 30, 1916 in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Henry K. and Hanna Gilbertson Peterson. She graduated from the Clermont High School, where she was the class valedictorian. She received a degree in primary education from Luther College in Decorah in 1938. She taught third grade in Maynard. She then worked in communications and dispatch for United Airlines in Chicago until she met her husband, Gordon. She was married to Gordon A. Stewart on January 22, 1944, in Clermont. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1996. They lived in Washington, D. C. where her husband was stationed with the Navy and Louise worked as a professional seamstress. In the late 1940's they moved to Canada. They then moved to Sylacauga, Alabama where their children, David and Mary were born. In 1961 they moved to Neenah, Wisconsin. In Neenah Louise was very active at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir and sewed many vestments, banners, and robes for the congregation and the clergy. Louise loved to cook, sew, and she loved to golf. She began playing golf at the age of forty and had a hole-in-one her first year. She also won many golf tournaments.

Survivors include her son, David Stewart and his fiancé, Debbie Kimpel, Fond du Lac, her daughter, Mary Stewart, Nennah, WI, one grandson, Derek Kessler, Neenah, WI, one sister, Iva (Don) Martindale, Oelwein, IA, and nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gordon, her brother, Clarence Peterson, two sisters, Pearl Peterson and Ruth Larson.
