Rudolph “Rudy” Larson, 91, of Waukon, Iowa, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Rudolph “Rudy” Larson was born March 21, 1914, on the Makee Township, rural Waukon, Iowa, farm of his parents, Hans and Hulda (Anderson) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and attended the rural “Fan” School. Following school he worked for neighboring farmers.
May 5, 1937, Rudy married Clara Elvina Sanderson at the Old West Church and the two of them began farming Clara’s parents’ home farm. They operated a dairy herd and raised hogs and grain. In later years, they sold the dairy cows and started raising beef cattle. Rudy loved the farming life and was fond of his Allis-Chalmers equipment. He was a good neighbor, sharing regular farm tasks with many, and was usually the first one to come when someone needed help. Rudy and Clara moved to Waukon in 1990.
Rudy was a devoted member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. He served on the cemetery committee and rang the bell for many, many years, and also held numerous other offices. He and Clara both enjoyed visiting with their neighbors and having company over for supper or to share special times.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Gladys and Lillian Larson, both of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Clara, who died in 1992; brothers Morris, Clifton “Telford”, Olvin, and Lester; a sister, Hilma Christianson; and an infant brother and sister.
Honorary casketbearers are Joe, Don, and Charles Bakke, Robert Anderson, Richard Hansmeier, Arlyn Fossum, Doug and Curtis Gilbertson, and Jerry Spieglehalter. Casketbearers are Lyle and Curt Larson, Ron Winters, Bob and Kevin Fossum, Eddy Knuppe, Randy Bakke, and Clifton Christianson.
