John Kappmeyer

John William Kappmeyer, 83, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Eastern, Central, and Western Iowa.

John was born July 10, 1922, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Herman and Lena Skubina Kappmeyer.

He married Lillian LaMarr Monnahan July 12, 1952, in Decorah, Iowa. He received a BS Degree from Upper Iowa University, and a Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. John was the school administrator for Eastern Allamakee Community Schools, and West Central Community Schools for 32 years before retiring. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, P.O.W.S., and Disabled Veterans. He was a POW in Germany for one year and seven months.

Special thanks to the “kids” parents, communities, and fellow educators John had the privilege to work with during his 32 years of teaching.
