Peter Colsch

Peter Colsch, age 92, of New Albin, Iowa, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at a later date. The Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.

Peter was born April 3, 1913, in Iowa Township of Allamakee County to Leo H. and Ellen (Luth) Colsch. He married Anna Frances Mettille April 25, 1933, at St. Joseph’s Church in New Albin. She preceded him in death December 25, 1995.

Peter farmed south of New Albin for most of his life, and also he was a carpenter and mechanic for some years. He did carpentry for Midland Mortgage Co. building, painting, and repairing farm buildings all over Iowa. From 1929 to 1932 he worked in Charles City, Iowa, for Sherman Nursery. Peter also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Peter is survived by his four sons, Cecil (Bette) Colsch of Woodstown, N.J., Gary (Patricia) Colsch of Shalimar, Fla., Gerald (Myrna) Colsch of La Crosse, Wis., and John Colsch of New Albin; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Mackin of Osage, Iowa and Ellen (Emerson) Anderson of Mason City, Iowa.

Peter was preceded in death by his wife Anna; two grandson; two brothers, John and Albert Colsch; a sister, Cecelia Brahney; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John (Cindy) Colsch.
