Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18 for lifetime area resident Robert Edward McDonald, age 71 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. Father Ed Lechtenberg and Father Joseph Slepicka conducted the 10:00 a.m. services. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military graveside services. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were bill Waldron, Paul Anderson, LeRoy McCabe, Leo Murphy, Frank Norden, Dick Gearhart, Dan Regan, and Chuck Luther. Honorary pallbearers were Matt Ryan, Ralph Anderson, John Campbell, Joe Tysland, Curtis Clark, Frank Plein, George Smrcina, Perry Norton, Ernie Burroughs, John Waldron, and Wally Larson.

Robert "Bob" Edward McDonald was born December 19, 1918 in Waukon, Iowa to Edward J. and Mae Freda (Gerkey) McDonald. He graduated from Waukon High School and attended Waukon Junior College. From 1942 to 1946 he was a mechanic in the Army (TEC 4) serving in the Asiatic Theatre with time spent in India and Burma. On October 18, 1948 he and Jeanne Dougherty were married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa.

For 25 years he owned and operated Dolly Madison Dairies in Waukon, Iowa. He also managed Waukon Golf and Country Club in 1977, clerked at B&B Clothing, and the last several years worked in the maintenance department of Northern Engraving, all in Waukon, Iowa. He also coached basketball at St. Pat's High School from 1950-1952. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW, and Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Waukon Park Board, St. Pat's Parish Council, Waukon Golf and Country Club Board, and a member of the town baseball team in Waukon in the 40's and 50's.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne; 2 daughters, Patty (Frank) Goltz of Waukon, Iowa, Jan (John) Campbell of Bettendorf, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Matt and Ben Goltz and Claire and Seth Campbell; a sister, Helen Etteldorf of Waukon, Iowa and a brother, Donald McDonald of Moses Lake, Washington.
