Oliver E. Hermeier
Oliver E. Hermeier, son of Fred and Florence (Klein) Hermeier, was born on his parents farm in Ludlow Township, Allamakee County, on April 6, 1921. He died June 5, 1993 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa. He was 72.
Oliver attended Ludlow #7 rural school near Waukon, and later took training at electrical and refrigeration school in Chicago. He served in the Navy in World War II.
On Oct. 21, 1947, he married Marcella Olson at the Zion United Church of Christ parsonage in Waukon, Iowa by Rev. Henning. They had three children.
Oliver had many jobs: in the Waukon area he was a policeman, mechanic, drove a gravel truck, installed power lines, worked construction and helped build the hospital and creamery, had a beer distributorship, hauled milk and farmed for four years.
The couple moved to Waterloo in 1959, where Oliver worked for Waterloo Industries and Lewis Motors in manufacturing and later for Schultz Manufacturing in charge of maintenance. He liked to work in his yard and raise flowers and used to like to go fishing.
Oliver is preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella of Waterloo; a daughter, Susan (David) Mower of Iowa City; two sons, Terry (Karen) Hermeier of Waterloo and Eugene Hermeier; his mother Florence Hermeier of Waukon; two sisters, Gladys Dix and Alice (Robert) Harkreader, all of Rockford, Ill.; two brothers, Richard and Raymond, both of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
Services for Oliver E. Hermeier were held Wednesday, June 9 at Zion United Church of Christ. The Rev. Richard Eick officiated. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Eugene Thias, Roger Svebakken, Boyd Groezinger, David Snitker, Dale Smith and Bernard Snitker. Arrangements were made by Martin Funeral Home, Waukon.
