Requiem High Mass was offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday April 4 in Immaculate Conception Church in Fulton, Ill. for James S. Morgan, 49, who died Saturday, April 1, in Mercy Hospital, Clinton. Rev.William McMahon was the celebrant. Burial was in Calvary Hill cemetery in Multon (sic) where full military rites were conducted by the Fulton American Legion.
The wake was held at the Fay-Seesser Funeral Home in Fulton where the Office of the Dead was said at 8 p.m. Monday.
Mr. Morgan was born July 7, 1917, in New Albin, the son of Francis B. and Anita Bakewell Morgan. He was educated in the New Albin schools, and served 4 1/2 years with the U.S. Army's 34th Division, known as the Red Bull Division, in World War II, mainly in the African campaign.
On February 14, 1946, he was married in Kansas City, Mo. to Geraldine Fulcher. Before moving to Fulton in 1948, he operated a tavern in Charles City. Mr. Morgan was a member of the American Legion, the Morrison V.F.H., the Savannah Moose Lodge, the Knights of Columbus of Freeport, in which he held the fourth degree., the Clinton Elks Lodge and the Immaculate Conception Church.
Surviving are his wife, a son Lance Cpl. James P. Morgan, with the U.S. Marine Corps. in Camp Pendleton, Calif.; a daughter, Janet at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Morgan, New Albin; three sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Owens, Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Peter (Peggy) Violante, Soyoset, Long Island, New York, Mrs. William (Marietta) Johnson, Tempe, Ariz.; and four brothers, Daniel and Earl, New York City, Lawrence of Memphis, Tenn. and John of Charles City. A daughter died in infancy.
His parents, brothers and sisters were present for his funeral and others from a distance attending his wake and funeral were: Mr. John Owens, Cold Water, Mich.; Mrs. Ambrose Owens and Mr. Peter Violante, New York City; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fulcher, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Helen Winchip and son Melvin of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kalkbrenner and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Draheim, New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs.Leonard Zweck, Dougherty; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bakewell and Mrs, and Mrs. John Scholtes, Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Meyer and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Donovan of New Albin.
