Funeral services were held Saturday morning at ten o'clock for Mrs. Joe H. Wagner at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing. Brief mention of her death was made in last week's paper. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Hintgen offered the Mass of Requim (sic) and Father Thomas Schwinn said the final prayerers (sic) at the graveside in Gethsemane Cemetery where the interment was made.
As Mary Whalen, she was born in Wexford February 7th, 1887, daughter of Thomas and Ellen Whalen. She was married at I.C. Church in Wexford on September 24, 1911 and with the family farmed in that community until more than 20 years ago when they moved to make their home in town. Her husband preceded her in death in September of 1965 and a daughter died at the age of 2 1/2. Left to mourn the passing of their mother are one son Nick, of Lafayette township; four daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Ann) Callahan, Harpers Ferry; Mrs. John (Mary) Hammell, Waukon; Mrs. Clem (Helen) Peters, Lansing; Mrs. Allan (Rita) Barry, Dubuque. Other immediate survivors include one brother, James Whalen of California, 24 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mrs. Wagner was a life long Catholic and died fortified by the last holy and solemn rites of Mother Church. She was devoted to her family and before her health failed active in the Women's League and Rosary Society.
Serving as gasket bearers were six grandsons, Vincent Peters, Ray Wagner, Danny Hammell, Thomas and Ray Callahan and Patrick Barry.
