Mrs. Vesta Carpenter received word last week of the death of her cousin Fred Johnson, about 78, at Santa Barbara, Calif. on April 5. Mrs (sic) Johnson was born in Waukon, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson and grew up in this area. He was an engineer, a graduate of Iowa State University and lived and was employed in Chicago for many years, later retiring to Santa Barbara. He is survived by his widow and a son and daughter living in Chicago. Funeral services and interment were held in Chicago.
