Contributor's note: Below are 2 different obits for the same man ... it's likely that the Lansing paper obit was the most accurate, but the conflicts should be resolved by interested researchers.

Waukon, Ia., Nov. 13 - John Dundee, World war veteran aged about 50 years, died at a government hospital in Denver, Cal. [sic], Wednesday morning, according to words received here by relatives.

The body will arrive here the latter part of the week, funeral services and burial taking place here.

Mr. Dundee was born and reared in this vicinity and spent the greater part of his life here and about two months ago went west to seek medical attention. He is survived by several brothers and sisters, one of them, Mrs. James Healey, residing in Waukon.

Death of John Dundee
John Dundee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Dundee, was born at Postville, Iowa, November 23, 1886, and died at the Veterans' Hospital, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Nov. 11, 1931, aged 44 years, 11 months and 18 days. Nearly all his life was spent in Allamakee county.

He was a veteran of the World War, having been inducted into the army February 24, 1918. He left for the front May 1, 1918, and was engaged in the battles of St. Meihiel, Argonne and others. He returned to the United States May 18, 1919, and was honorably discharged July 6, 1919.

He leaves to mourn, one brother, Glen of Waukon, and three sisters, Mrs. Laura Bircher of Dubuque, Mrs. Carol Rupp of Benton, Wis., and Mrs. Georgia Healy of Waukon.

The remains arrived here last Thursday afternoon and were met at the depot by a detachment of the Legion and escorted to the home of his sister, Mrs. Jas. Healy.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Van Nice at the home of Mrs. Healy, and burial was made under the auspices of the American Legion in the Oakland cemtery, Nov. 13, 1931.
