Miss Melita, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nees, pioneers of Lycurgus, was brought to the home of her sister, Mrs. Conrad Fritz, of this city, a little over a week ago, from Iowa City, where she had been receiving treatment for Brights and a complication of other diseases, passed away Monday evening at 9:15 o'clock, aged 51 years, 5 months and 19 days.

Deceased was raised at Lycurgus and made this county her home until about ten years ago, teaching school and clerking in Waukon and this city. She engaged in business for herself at Hazleton, Iowa, which she conducted for nine years, when failing health necessitated her retirement.

She had been ailing only six months and ere the family had realized the fatal portent of her disease her spirit had flown to the home where sorrow and sickness is unknown. She leaves to mourn her loss two brothers, Will, of Lycurgus, and Reinhold, of this city; and two sisters, Miss Thekla at home and Mrs. Conrad Fritz; also a niece, Miss Meta Fritz.

Miss Nees was a typical business woman, possessed great strength of character and while not making friends readily retained friendships once formed to the last.

The funeral takes place from the old home at Lycurgus to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Krebs, of this city, officiating, and interment in Lansing Ridge cemetery beside her parents and one sister, Mrs. John Fritz, who preceded her in death.

The JOURNAL extends condolence and sincerest sympathy to the bereaved brothers, sisters and niece.
