Mrs. Pat Joyce - On Wednesday morning, October 19, 1921, Mrs. Patrick Joyce passed away peacefully at the family home.

She was born Sept. 15, 1853, at Galena, Ills. Although she had been ailing since last July with high blood pressure and complication and death was not unexpected, still it case a pall of gloom over those who are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.

About two weeks ago she grew worse and the doctor in attendance gave little hope for her recovery as she gradually grew weaker and all that medical aid and loving care could do could not stay the hand of death and she earned her reward and went to it quickly.

Her life as a christian wife and mother was as a shinning example to others for she was a fine character, always charitable, sincere, honest and upright, above all her religion came first, she being a most devout Catholic. That she was an exemplary wife and mother is shown in the fine family which she reared and are left to mourn her loss, besides her kind and loving husband, all who done so much for her who was so near and dear, and may God grant her that reward which she by her good life deserves.

Mrs. Joyce was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dungan, who were pioneer settlers here. She was married to Patrick Joyce at the Wexford church June 19th, 1878. To this union ten children were born, two girls and one boy preceding her in death. There are seven living, all grown to manhood and womanhood. They are John Joyce, Canton, Ohio; James of Tony, Wis.; Mrs. Geo. Aylward, of Dunnell, Minn.; Joseph, William, Theresa and Anna at home, all being present at the funeral except James.

She also leaves three grand-children and two brothers, Jas. and Edward Dungan, the former of Sioux Falls, S.D., and the latter of Lansing, Iowa, and four sisters, Mrs. Ettie Donolan, of Reliance, S.D., Mrs. Kate Manning of Beresford, S.D., Mrs. Rose Healy, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mrs. Theresa Hawes of Wexford, all who will miss her sadly.

The solomn Requiem Mass was sung by Rev. Father Hayes, assisted by Rev. Stewart of Waukon and Father Nolan of Paint Rock. Msgr. Haxmeier of Lansing and Father Laffan also assisted. The Harpers Ferry choir sung the Mass and the funeral was the largest held here for some time, Lansing, Paint Rock, Harpers Ferry and Wexford all being well represented.

Those from away who attended the funeral Friday were Mrs. Anthony Donolan, Reliance, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. James Dungan, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Dungan and Mary Howard, of Lansing; besides her son John of Canton, Ohio, and daughter, Mrs. Geo. Aylward, and three children of Dunnell, Minn.

The pass bearers were JF. and M.E. Mooney, M. Callahan, Ben Heatley and Urban Healy. She was laid to rest in the Wexford cemetery. Peace to her soul.
