DIED - In this city on the 13th inst. of acute pleurisy, Edward Ruth, aged 59 years.

Mr. Ruth was one of our oldest citizens, and was universally esteemed by all. He came to Lansing in 1854, from Massachusetts, and has ever since been closely identified with Lansing interests, adding not a little to the growth and prosperity of the city, which was then but a mere steamboat landing with scarce a dozen business houses.

Mr. R. served the public faithfully for a number of years in the capacity of city street commissioner and his efficiency in the improvements of our streets and alleys was complimented by all.

The deceased was the father of our post master, Capt. J.H. Ruth, and Mrs. R. Angell, of this city, and Mrs. Dr. E.O. Plumbe.

The remains were interred in Oakwood Cemetery last Wednesday afternoon and were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sorrow stricken friends.

--
Mrs. Dr. Plumbe is in the city, having come to attend the funeral of her father, the late Mr. E. Ruth. She will remain several days visiting old home friends.
