Capt. James Ruth, of this city, received the sad intelligence of his brother Edward's death on Saturday.

Edward Ruth was a Lansing boy in years gone by. He died at Salt Lake City, on Sunday, June 24. the cause of his death was disease of the stomach.

Mr. Ruth was about 38 years old. He was a member of Co. F, 6th Iowa cavalry, and served under his brother James who was captain of the company. He was a good soldier, who performed his duty most faithfully. After his discharge in 1865 he returned to Lansing where he remained for something over a year. He then went west where he has since resided.

He was married several years ago, and leaves a wife and two small boys to mourn his untimely death.

He visited his old home in this city eight years ago, about the time of his father's death. At the time of his death he was in the employ of the Denver and Rio Grande railroad.

Thus, one by one the boys we have known from the days of childhood pass away. Ed., as Mr. Ruth was always called, is the second and last brother of our townsman who has been called to the grand encampment of the dead, since the close of the war. Both the boys, Ed. and Will, were with him in the service, and both have died in the years of early manhood, out in the far west. He feels their loss most deeply, and with others of the old settlers cannot escape a painful feeling of loneliness, when he considers how many of the old friends and loved ones have passed from earth who were here in early days and contributed to the happiness of pioneer life.
