Mrs. Sarah Elsey was born in Pike Co., Ohio, in 1819 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D.A. Minnick, at Rising City, Neb., October 1, in her 83rd year.

She leaves six children - I.T., T.N. and Henry who reside in this county; George, who is at Independence hospital, one daughter residing in Allamakee county and the other daughter at Rising City, Neb., with whom she had resided for about one year past.

Mrs. Elsey removed from Ohio to Green Co., Wis. in 1844 and to Allamakee Co, Iowa, in 1849, when this state was a vast expanse of prairie.

In 1880 she removed to Armour Co. S.D., and to Lake City in 1880. Mrs. Elsey was well and favorably known to the people in the south part of Lake City where she resided for about twelve years.

She was a member of the U.B. church in Allamakee county, but being an invalid for a number of years had been unable to attend church.

I.T. and Thos. attended the funeral which took place October 2 at 2 p.m. from Rising City Christian church and the remains were laid to rest there.

Notes: Her husband, George W. Elsey, died in 1872 and is presumed to have been buried in the Post twp. cemetery (aka Minert) cemetery, Allamakee co. Iowa.

A daughter, Susanna V. (Elsey) Glenn, died 1906, is buried in Minert cemetery.

Sarah's son George W. appears in the Harris Funeral Home records (Postville, Iowa), having died 11/13/1909, It is very likely that he is also buried in the Minert cemetery.
