John J. Howes Called by Death
St. Patrick's Church, Waukon, was filled with sorrowing friends Saturday morning when Rev. E. J. Reynolds offiated at the funeral service of the late John Howes, who passed away Thursday morning at his home west of town following a lingering illness which the best medicinal skill was unable to give him relief.
He was born in French Creek twp., Nov. 10, 1872, being only 66 years of age at the time of his death. He was active politician, serving two terms as a member of the Board of Supervisors. His wife, who was formerly Miss Nona Waters of Union City township, and their six children are Clement, John, William and Leo in this vicinity and Mrs. Joseph Fahey and Mrs. Urban Magner of Union Prairie township are left to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted father and a loyal friend and neighbor. He is also survived by two brother, Edward of Denver, Colo., and Albert of French Creek township, and three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Dougherty of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Thos. Waters of Union City, and Mrs. Maurice Regan of Makee township.
The remains were laid to rest in Mount Olivet cemetery.
