The home of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Lemme has been the scene of deep sorrow the past few weeks as both of their mothers, Mrs. David Anderson and Mrs. F. G. Lemme have been taken from their midst by death.

That of Mrs. Lemme occurred on Sunday last, January 21, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hastings, south of Waukon, where she had received care during her illness the past two years from an incurable malady. She had been in failing health for a year or more previous.

As Lydia Bauercamper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bauercamper, early settlers of Ludlow township, she was born Oct. 29, 1861, and lived to past 78 years of age.

On May 5, 1886 her marriage to the Rev. F. G. Lemme took place in Ludlow township, he being pastor at the time of the German Presbyterian church at Sherrill’s Mound near Dubuque. Later he and his wife became owners of a farm near Forest City, Iowa on which a church was erected and Rev. Lemme served the congregation as pastor. His death occurred in 1919.

In 1922 Mrs. Lemme came to Waukon, which has since been her home.

Fourteen children were born to their union, two of whom, Paula and Benjamin preceded her in death. Those surviving are Paul and Theodore Lemme, Portland Oregon; Mrs. Conrad DeLap (Martha) Lexington, Nebr.; Mrs. H. B. Worsted (Ruth), Keokuk; David, Cozard, Nebr.; Mrs. Joseph Carlson (Esther), Mrs. E. L. McFarland (Alma), Daniel and Carl, Forest City; Mrs. H. F. Ryan (Clara), Kansas City; Amos and Mrs. Leo Kiesau (Sarah), Waukon.

Living also are her three brothers and two sisters, David and Julius Bauercamper, Ludlow township; Charles, Burlington; Mrs. Herman Sanderman, Lexington, Nebr.; Mrs. August Pieper, Iowa City, and 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Deceased was a devoted wife and mother, an ardent friend and was always ready to assist neighbors in their need. Her life was wholly Christian like and her memory will long lovingly linger with her family and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Zion Reformed church, conducted by Rev. Edmund M. DeBuhr, pastor of Salem Reformed church in Ludlow, in the absence of the regular pastor, the Rev. F. E. Stucki.

The remains were conveyed today to the cemetery at Crystal Lake, Iowa for internment beside her husband and daughter Paula. Short services were conducted there by Rev. DeBuhr and the Rev. Henry Kruse of Woden. The pallbearers were six nephews, namely: Ralph Bauercamper, Cresco, Martin, Leslie and Arthur Bauercamper, Elmer F. Pieper and Milton Lemme.

Relatives from a distance in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Ryan and two daughters, Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. Conrad DeLap, Lexington, Nebr.; Daniel and Carl Lemme, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Carlson and Mr. and Mrs. E. L. McFarland, Forest City and Mrs. H. B. Worsted, Keokuk.
