Mary E. Martin

Funeral services for Mary E. Martin were held Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Clermont. The Rev. Paul Otting officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Mary Evangeline Martin, daughter of Michael and Mary (Conway) McCoy, was born September 19, 1897 near Grand Meadow, MN. She died Tuesday evening, March 29, 1988 in her home in Clermont.

Mary graduated from Nevis High School in 1917. On August 22, 1918 she married Melvin L. Martin. The couple had 5 children.

From 1918 until 1926 they lived at Barnesville, MN; from 1926 until 1938 they lived in the McGregor and Marquette, IA area. They moved to the Elgin and Clermont area in 1938, where they have maintained their home until the present time. They had also been employed by Dr. Mary Lorenz at Manchester, IA from 1961 to 1981.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died June 7, 1983, a son, Lyle, Nov. 21, 1979; 2 brothers, Joseph and Daniel; 3 sisters, Sarah Keaveny, Hazel Schauff, and Collette Riley, a son-in-law, Joseph Lerch, a daughter-in-law, Lucille Martin and 2 great-grandchildren, twins, Rita and Paul Martin.

She is survived by 2 sons, Giles and his wife, Judy, Elgin, Jorris, Clermont; 2 daughters, Viola Lerch, Farley and Maurene and her husband, Kenneth Cable, Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Doris Martin, Clermont; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Cyril McCoy, Moorhead, MN, Dave McCoy, Park Rapids, MN and a sister, Ione Theis, Eveleth, MN.

Mary was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and also St. Peter's Altar and Rosary Society.

Casket bearers: Milvin "Mic" Martin, Michael Martin, David Martin, John Martin, Steve Martin, Thomas Martin, James Martin, Kenneth Lerch, Terence Lerch, Robert Lerch, Timothy Cable, Kevin Cable and Martin Cable.
