Alderman P.H. Dempsey received a telegram from Rhinelander, Wis., last Saturday, stating that his brother Thomas had been kicked by a horse and was in a serious condition. Dr. P.F. Dempsey of Waukon, another brother, left at once for there but did not arrive for some hours after death had taken place.

The unfortunate young man was terribly bruised and mangled by the cruel hoofs of the vicious animal, being pinned to the wall and battered to a jelly about the chest and afterwards trampled upon. Still he was fortunate in a measure, being conscious to the end and able to receive the consolation and last sacraments of his church.

The remains arrived yesterday and interment is taking place this morning as we write, from the Catholic church.

Deceased was the second youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Dempsey, being born on a farm in Lafayette township about forty-four years ago. He is the third one of six sons to be brought home for burial. Two sisters, Miss Mary and Dr. Katherine Hyde of Chicago, and another brother, John (somewhere in Idaho when last heard from), with the two brothers in this county constitute the immediate mourners, and all were present at the funeral save the missing brother.

Mr. Dempsey taught school hereabouts before going north some fifteen years ago and for the past eight or ten years, we understand, had been a resident of Rhinelander.

May his soul rest in peace.
