Mrs. Fred. Bartheld. Sunday morning, at 8 o'clock, the tired spirit of the above pioneer mother peacefully winged its flight to Him who gave it, after an illness of about four months with dropsy.

Deceased maiden name was Philipina Zimmermann. She was born in Gaugreweiler, Hoenichrich, Biren, Germany, June 18, 1833. Emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1861, where, on June 8, 1853, she was married to Fredrick Bartheld, shortly afterwards moving to this county and settling in Village Creek, which was their home until the death of Mr. B. July 15, 1896.

Five daughters and five sons blessed this union, three sons and two daughters surviving, as follows: Henry W. and Peter L. of La Crosse; William F. of Bennet, Iowa; Mrs. E.L. Eells, Haileyville, Okla.; and Mrs. F.F. Gaunitz of this city.

Mrs. Bartheld was the last of a family of three brothers and two sisters. She was a kind, Christian woman, typifying in the highest degree the good German housewife and being an ideal mother in the strictest sense of the word. She could not bear to be idle and in her old age had a garden to tend and even during her last illness kept her knitting by her side.

The funeral takes place tomorrow afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.F. Gaunitz, where she has lived for the past eight years, Rev. Kegel officiating.
