Mrs. LEONARD (Hazel Livingood) BARTHELL

Hazel Livingood was born near Myron, Iowa February 16, 1895. She lived on the farm and received such education as the district school afforded. Six years ago she came to Waukon with her parents. This has been her home since except a short time after her marriage. She attended the Waukon High School and was a good student. She graduated from the school in June 1915. Shortly after graduation she accepted a position as clerk in Lee Brothers Store, retaining this position until about the first of May of this year.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Barthell May 16, 1916. One of the happy spirits of earth, she looked forward to her married life with great expectations. Even when disease had claimed her she allowed nothing but sunshine to pervade her last days. When she knew she must die she went deliberately to prepare for her funeral, making arrangements for the details which are being carried out in the arrangements.

She died August 5, 1916, aged 21 years, 5 months, 19 days. She leaves besides her husband, two brothers Wilber and Bert, both of Myron. A large number of friends mourn today because the bright happy spirit has been called away from earth. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, at the Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Van Nice. Burial Oakland Cemetery.

-note: Hazel was the daughter of Webster Clay and Mary Ella (Waters) Livingood. Her husband was Leonard Jonathan Barthell, son of Jonathan W. and Minnie (Steinbach) Barthell.
