SAMUEL HENDERSON DIED
The funeral services of Samuel Henderson were held from the Methodist Church at Volney, Wednesday, May the 27th, the Rev. J.B. Ackman being the officiating minister. His body was shipped here from Leola, S. Dakota where his propellers of life came to a halt after a sojourn here of four score and almost nine years.
Samuel Henderson was born July 13th, 1836, at Cadiz, Ohio, and died May 24th, 1925 at the home of his son Thomas Henderson, at Leola, S. Dakota. He reached the good old age of 88 years, 10 months and 11 days.
He was united in marriage to Clara Hall, Sept. 20, 1860, who preceded him in death about 8 years ago. After their marriage they followed the call of the then unknown west and came to Iowa in 1862 and located at Sixteen, northeast of Monona, Iowa. Later they moved to Waukon. To them were born 11 children of whom eight survive to mourn the death of their father. Those who survive are: Mrs. Anna Miller of Nora Springs, Iowa, Thomas Henderson of Leola, S. Dakota, William Henderson of Volney, Frank Henderson of Pullman, Wash., Mrs. Sertha Barcia of Hedgesville, Mont., Mrs. Ida Emerson of Lake Park, Iowa, Jesse Henderson of Jud, N. Dakota, and Harry Henderson of Dubuque, Ia.
Since the death of his wife and life's companion, Mr. Henderson has had his home with his son Thomas Henderson.
He was the grandfather of twenty-five grandchildren. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church having joined this church at Waukon about 50 years ago.
His body was laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery near Waukon.
