Wm. C. Linton Dead.
Waukon Republican — On January 21st at Pasadena, Cal., one of the first settlers of Allamakee county, Wm. C. Linton, died at the advanced age of 91 years. Mr. Linton was a Kentuckian by birth, and came to this county in 1842, settling at what is now known as the “Old Mission,” on Yellow river. Rev. David Lowry was the Indian agent and John Linton was in charge of the Mission agency. Wm. C. enlisted in the government service and performed military duty at various posts in this section. He later settled on a large farm in Clayton county, where he resided for forty years. Linton township took its name from the two Linton brothers, William and John. Some twenty years ago, Mr. Linton moved to California, and has since been engaged in the raising of fruit and flowers in that garden of the world. He had always enjoyed excellent health until three weeks before his death, when the stoppage of an artery in one foot produced gangrene, from which he died. He was the stepfather of Mrs. W. C. McNeil, of Postville.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Oct. 7, 1815 which doesn’t agree with the above age. He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena, CA.
