Last Rites Held for Helen Ames

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Ames, 61, of McGregor were held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 28, at the McGregor Methodist church with Rev. Kent Kastler officiating.

Burial was in the Monona City cemetery.

Mrs. Ames died in her sleep at her home, Saturday, Dec. 23, 1967. For the last several months she had been under a doctors' care.

She was born a daughter of William and Emma, nee Wilson, Huffman. Sept. 4, 1906, in Rossville. She was married to Austin Ames in 1925 at her mothers' home in Rossville.

Preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters.

Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Doyle (Audrey) Bennett, Mrs. Marvin (Bonnie) Hines, and Mrs. Henry (Diane) Benhart of Oelwein, Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Moon of Luana, Mrs. Norbert (Donna) Protsman of New Albin, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Havlik of Cedar Rapids and Miss Meredith Ames of McGregor; three sons, Clayton of Janesville, Wis., Calvin of Waterloo, and Sp/4 David Ames stationed with the U.S. Army in Vietnam: three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Smith of Roanoke, Va., Mrs. Pearl Smithrude of Waukon, and Mrs. Gladys Torson of Decorah; one brother, William Huffman of Waukon; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
