Jeremiah Leas was born Jan. 23, 1830 near Franklin, Ohio, and died at Rossville, Iowa, April 19, 1914.

In 1856 he brought his wife and two children to Allamakee Co. Iowa and has lived in the neighborhood of Rossville ever since. He was married to Miss Susanna Henderson before they left Ohio. To them were born nine children; seven of whom survive. One daughter died 21 years ago and a son lost his life in an accident ten years ago. The living children are Albertus and Mrs. Calvin Campbell of Rossville, Ia., John and Selden of Cottonwood, Minn., Geo A. of Monona, Leslie in N. Dak. and Mrs. A.D. Emerson in Minn. The now aged and bereaved wife will make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Campbell.

Many years ago, Mr. Leas became a member of the Methodist church, and forty years ago, he united with the Presbyterian church in Rossville. He was highly regarded for his character and staunch fidelity to what he believed to be right. Several times he was elected by his fellow citizens to important office in Allamakee Co.

The funeral service was held in the church at Rossville, conducted by Rev. J.B. Bird, April 22, and the body laid to rest in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
