Jens Erickson Funeral Held

Funeral services for Jens Erickson, 55, were held last Saturday afternoon at the Rossville Presbyterian church with services conducted by the Rev. A.H. Grosshelm. Burial was in Oakland cemetery at Waukon.

The following served as pallbearers: Merwyn Kelly, Reuben Frink, Ray Rush, Ernest Deal, and Oscar Thompson.

Mr. Erickson was instantly killed Monday afternoon April 18, by a dynamite blast while grubbing stumps on his farm in Jefferson township. He planted dynamite in two stumps and went to a third one nearby when the other two exploded. The blast struck him on the left side of his face, throwing him about 20 feet in the air.

He was born a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Erickson at Hudiksvall, Sweden, Sept. 14, 1893. There he grew to manhood, was confirmed and became a member of the Lutheran church. He came to Allamakee county in 1913. He attended the Sweeney Auto Mechanic School at Kansas City, Mo., and was employed at Minneapolis, Minn., and points in Wisconsin.

On February 24, 1921, his marriage to Lillian Sandry took place and for 18 years they lived on the Dr. C.W. Rominger farm in Linton township. In 1929 he purchased the farm where his death occured.

Surviving are his widow and only son, Joseph, who assisted his father on the home farm. Surviving are three brothers living in Sweden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
