A.M. MAY VETERAN EDITOR OF WAUKON DEAD

Alonzo M. May, an old settler and one of the highly respected citizens of Waukon passed away at his home there Sunday, March 15th, at the age if 87 years. He was a veteran of the civil war, was rector of the Episcapel Church in Waukon from 1867 to 1868 Principle of the Waukon Schools in 1868 and 1869 Publisher of the Waukon Standard from 1868 to 1901. He was a charter member of John A. Stillman Post G.A.R. No. 193 and one of the leading figures in the up-building of Waukon for many years.

Note: Alonzo May was the son of Philander and Laura (Matthews) May. He married Augusta Mary Hayward on July 26, 1865 in Beloit, Wisconsin.
