Funeral Rites Held For Mrs. Schwab

Funeral services for Mrs. A.E. Schwab, 87, were held Sunday afternoon, July 31, at 2 o'clock at the Schultz Funeral home with Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer of the Methodist church officiating.

Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery at Lansing.

Mrs. Schwab died at a Waukon hospital, Thursday, July 28, after a short illness. She lived for the last several years in a nursing home at Waukon.

As Lucy E., she was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schmidt at Lycurgus in Allamakee county, Oct. 26, 1872. She was educated in a rural school of her home community.

She was married to Adam Edward Schwab, June 16, 1896, at Lansing, the couple making their home in Monona. Mr. Schwab in April, 1895, came to Monona and purchased the restaurant business of Tapper and Egbert. They soon converted the restaurant into a general store, later combining the business of the grocery and poultry line, continuing in business in Monona over a period of 47 years.

Mrs. Schwab was an active member of the Methodist Church and of the Order of Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her husband, who died June 9, 1942, one sister, Mary, and three brothers, Joe, Ferdinand and Frank Schmidt.

Surviving are one son, Floyd of Cedar Rapids, two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Music at the service was provided by Mrs. Ben Frese Jr., soloist. Mrs. Ivan J. Schultz was the accompanist.

Members of the Order of Eastern Stars served as honary escorts.

Pallbearers were: Frank R. Bothel, Elbert (Nick) Cahoon, Ernest G. Kaiser, Howard T. Orr, G.F. Fox, and Joseph Vaughan.
