Joan LaMoyne Martins was born on September 26, 1941 to Ruth Svinth and John LaMoyne in Gig Harbor, Washington. Joan passed away on Friday, August 8, 1997 in the Winneshiek County, Memorial Hospital at Decorah, Iowa. She had reached the age of 55 years, 10 months, and 12 days. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.

Joan was baptized on Easter Day in 1945 and confirmed May 20, 1956. She graduated from high school in Rochester, Minnesota and Winona State University at Winona, Minnesota. She married Jerald Martins on November 29, 1974 at Postville, Iowa. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

Joan taught at Postville Community Schools for over 30 years. Teaching "her children" and cultivating minds was her gift to us all. She was a selfless person, always thinking of others and touching people's lives with personal acts of giving and kindness. Her zest for life and finding the good in everything around her was limitless. Joan's love for her family and friends was unconditional and knew no boundaries. She lived her life in accordance to her personal beliefs and values. She was a woman of immense integrity and character. She is loved by many and is now our angel in heaven,still teaching us, still blessing us.

Joan LaMoyne Martins is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jerald Martins; her daughters Ronda Hubbard of Dallas, Texas, and Robin and her husband Joe Seidel of Oelwein, Iowa; her mother Ruth McFarlin of Rochester, Minnesota, and two sisters Jan LaMoyne of Rochester and Lea Schoenrock of Mantorville, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Brunell and Michael Paul Brunell.
