Marquette people were shocked to hear of the death of Mr. James Sweney at La Crosse, Thursday afternoon.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sweeney, early residents of Allamakee county, and moved there from Galena, Ill., where he was born 74 years ago. He spent the greater part of his life in railroad work, being employed by the C.M. St. P. & P. railroad as car repair man. He was stationed at Marquette for a number of years and several ago retired on pension.

Mr. Sweeney is survived by two brothers and three sisters, Peter and John Sweeney of Waukon, Mrs. Susan Coyle, Mrs. William Waldron and Mrs. William McCormick, all of Waukon, a brother Anton, died a year ago. Funeral services were held at Waukon at St. Patrick's church Monday, 9:30 A.M. Father Stuart officiating with interment at Lycurgus.
